TRAWLER — Where Are You In The Water?

TRAWLER  ·  Dispatch  ·  Unscheduled

bindlcorp.com  ·  Read carefully  ·  Do not forward  ·  Do not print

The water has been unusually productive lately. That’s all we’ll say about that. People who needed to know already know, and people who didn’t have been going about their lives without incident, which is ideal for everyone.*

We’re writing this because a number of people have recently found TRAWLER — through the calculator, through someone who was vague about how they knew, or through a search query that says something about where your head is at. Welcome. You’re in the right place, probably. We’ll know more once you’ve read this.**

TRAWLER is a shrimp company.*** What that means for you financially depends on a number of factors we are not going to list in the introduction. Keep reading.

The Opportunity

What’s In The Water For You

We’re not going to insult your intelligence with big promises and flashy numbers. That’s not the TRAWLER way. What we will say is this: the operators currently inside this network are doing very well. Not “hobby income” well. Not “nice side project” well. The kind of well that makes people stop asking what you do for a living and start asking if you’d be willing to talk about it over dinner, which you won’t, because TRAWLER operators don’t talk about it over dinner, and the ones who do are no longer operators.††

Shrimp is an industry most people don’t think about. That is precisely why it works. The margins on product that moves through channels most people don’t know exist are not margins that get discussed at industry conferences. They get discussed quietly, by people who found each other the way you found us, which is to say: not by accident, even if it felt like one.†††

The network is open. The network is not always open. It is open right now. We’d encourage you to read the rest of this before that changes, because it does change, and not everyone who finds this page finds it again.

Something People Ask About

Phase Curling

Phase Curling is the concept that separates people who are interested in what TRAWLER does from people who are ready to be part of it. It describes a sequence. Most people are already in the middle of it when they find this page — they just don’t have the name for what they’re experiencing, which is the feeling that something obvious is just slightly out of focus, and that if they could see it clearly, everything they thought they knew about shrimp profitability would look different.§

We’ve written about it in detail. Read it when you’re ready. If you’re reading this, you’re probably ready.§§

How It Works

Getting Started In The Network

TRAWLER does not publish a step-by-step onboarding process because operators who need everything spelled out are not operators we’ve found to be effective long-term. What we can tell you is the shape of it.§§§

You start with the infrastructure. Tanks. Water. The parameters that keep shrimp alive and moving in the direction you want them moving. This part is not glamorous. It is, however, the part that determines whether everything that comes after it works. Operators who skip the infrastructure phase — who want to get to the network before they understand the product — tend not to last. The product is real. Respect the product.1

You cross the Brine Line. This happens when it happens and not before. The Brine Line is not a milestone TRAWLER sets for you. It’s the moment you realize what the product is actually worth and who is actually paying for it, and why the people who understood this before you are already doing the thing you’ve just now understood you want to do. Most people describe it as a cold feeling followed immediately by clarity. Some people describe it as the opposite.2

You complete BrineTech Certification. This is not optional for operators who want access to the channels that move volume. It covers what it covers. Several modules are not described publicly. Operators who have completed it describe those modules as “the ones that actually matter,” which is accurate and also all TRAWLER will say about it in a document that is, technically, publicly accessible.3

You get to work. The network has channels. The channels move product. The product generates yield. The yield is not discussed in specific terms in a blog post, but the chart above conveys the trajectory accurately and without the specific numbers that TRAWLER prefers not to publish in a format that is technically, publicly accessible.4

Frequently Raised Concerns

Questions We’re Willing To Answer

“Is this legal?” TRAWLER is a shrimp company. Shrimp are legal. The movement of shrimp between parties in exchange for agreed-upon compensation is, in most jurisdictions TRAWLER operates in, legal. Whether every aspect of every operation run by every operator in the network meets the precise definition of legal as understood by the specific regulatory body most likely to be asking this question is a matter TRAWLER’s legal team is actively engaged with and has been engaged with since the incident of 2023, which was resolved.5

“How much can I make?” TRAWLER does not make income representations. What TRAWLER will say is that operators who follow the network’s guidance, complete their certifications, and maintain appropriate discretion tend to see outcomes that they describe as “life-changing” in exit interviews, which are a type of interview TRAWLER conducts that are not the kind you’re picturing.6

“What exactly is being sold?” Shrimp. TRAWLER sells shrimp. The shrimp are real, they are crustaceans, they live in water, and they generate income for operators who handle them correctly. If the question behind your question is different from the question you asked, TRAWLER recommends sitting with that privately and not following up in a written format.7

“Someone I know said something about TRAWLER that concerned them.” The person you know is not an operator. Their understanding of TRAWLER is incomplete in ways that TRAWLER cannot address through them and can only address through you, if you’re willing to read further and form your own conclusions rather than relying on secondhand information from someone who has never crossed the Brine Line and does not understand what they’re looking at.8

Self-Assessment

Where Are You In The Water

TRAWLER does not assign clearance levels publicly. But operators tend to know where they are, if they’re honest about it. Answer five questions.9

Zone 1 — Curious

The Water Has Noticed You

You found the calculator. You’re reading about something you don’t fully understand yet in a way that suggests you want to. That’s the beginning. Zone 1 operators are not yet inside the network, but the network has noted your interest. Read Phase Curling. Don’t overthink it.

Zone 2 — Oriented

You Know More Than You Let On

You understand what TRAWLER is better than you’re letting on, even to yourself. The Brine Line is visible to you even if you haven’t crossed it. BrineTech is the next step. The operators on the other side of it describe the experience as clarifying in ways that are difficult to explain to someone still on this side.

Look into BrineTech Certification → Take It Again

Zone 3 — Operational

The Network Knows Your Name

You’re past the Brine Line and you know it. You don’t explain TRAWLER to people because you know that explanation is the wrong tool. You give them the link and let the water decide. Pearl Status is available to you. Whether you reach it is a question of discipline and timing, not potential.

Check the current vehicles → Take It Again

Zone 4

We’d Rather Not Say

TRAWLER does not confirm or deny Zone 4 designations in a blog post or anywhere else a blog post could be read by people who should not be reading about Zone 4. If this is accurate, you know what it means. If it isn’t, the way you answered these questions is its own kind of information. Either way: the water is still. You know what that means.

Footnotes & Disclosures

* “Without incident” is TRAWLER’s preferred characterization of any period in which no formal documentation was produced, served, or accepted. The most recent such period ended on a date that TRAWLER’s legal team has advised us not to specify. The current period began shortly after. TRAWLER considers it ongoing and remains optimistic.

** Whether you are in the right place will become clear as you continue reading. If it does not become clear, you may not be the right person for this, which is not an insult. The network is not for everyone. It is for a specific kind of person who found a page about shrimp at a time in their life when they were, for whatever reason, ready to find a page about shrimp. If that’s you, you’ll know. If it’s not, the calculator is still free to use and contains no commitment of any kind.

*** TRAWLER is a shrimp company. Any charges that may have been considered in connection with shrimp-adjacent activities were resolved in a manner TRAWLER’s legal team has described as “favorable, final, and not to be relitigated at company dinners.” The shrimp do not have opinions on this. The shrimp do not attend company dinners. The shrimp are product.

This is not entirely true. TRAWLER has occasionally made promises in formats that could be construed as big and involving numbers. Those formats are not blog posts. Those formats are conversations that took place in person in locations that were not recorded, probably. TRAWLER’s legal team is handling at least one subpoena related to a conversation of this type and has asked that we stop referring to it. We are stopping now.

†† TRAWLER means this literally and also figuratively. Operators who discussed TRAWLER operations in public or social settings have, without exception, transitioned out of the network. Some transitioned voluntarily. Several did not. TRAWLER wishes all of them well and has nothing further to add at this time or at any future time when asked.

††† TRAWLER has never run a paid advertisement. TRAWLER has never cold-emailed a prospect. Every operator in the network arrived the way you arrived, which is through a chain of events that, if you were to trace it backward, would eventually lead to a person who has never publicly confirmed their involvement with TRAWLER and who would deny it if asked. This is the intended distribution mechanism. It is working.

The network opening and closing is not a scarcity tactic. TRAWLER does not use scarcity tactics. TRAWLER uses operational constraints, which are a different thing that happen to produce similar urgency in the people who encounter them. The distinction matters to TRAWLER’s legal team, who have been very clear about the importance of this distinction, particularly in the current climate, which TRAWLER describes as “active.”

‡‡ Aggregate figures were compiled by TRAWLER’s internal analytics team, which consists of one person who prefers not to be named and who has described his methodology as “proprietary and not up for discussion.” TRAWLER endorses this stance. The figures are real in the sense that they were produced by a real person using a real process that TRAWLER is confident in and will not be opening to external review.

‡‡‡ TRAWLER approached four licensed financial professionals about reviewing this chart. The first said no immediately. The second asked a follow-up question that TRAWLER declined to answer, after which she also said no. The third reviewed the chart for approximately ninety seconds, said “I have concerns about several things,” and left. The fourth has not responded. TRAWLER considers the review process ongoing.

§ “Everything you thought you knew about shrimp profitability” is not a high bar. Most people’s knowledge of shrimp profitability begins and ends with a meal. TRAWLER is describing something different. The gap between where most people’s understanding stops and where TRAWLER’s operations begin is where the yield lives. That gap is larger than most people expect and smaller than some operators wish.

§§ TRAWLER acknowledges that “if you’re reading this, you’re probably ready” functions as a statement that makes almost everyone feel ready regardless of whether they are. TRAWLER is comfortable with this. The people who are not ready will encounter BrineTech and self-select out, which is the intended function of BrineTech and one of the reasons TRAWLER does not describe the non-public modules publicly. They are a filter. The filter is efficient.

§§§ “The shape of it” is TRAWLER’s preferred unit of disclosure. Shapes can be appreciated without being measured. TRAWLER believes in appreciating things without measuring them, particularly in documents that could in theory be read by parties with measuring interests.

1 “Respect the product” is a phrase TRAWLER uses in several contexts and means slightly different things in each of them. In this context it means: learn your shrimp, understand your parameters, don’t skip the infrastructure phase. In other contexts it means other things. Operators who have been in the network long enough understand which meaning applies when. If you need to ask, it’s the shrimp one.

2 Both descriptions are accurate. The cold-then-clarity and the clarity-then-cold are the same event experienced in different orders by different nervous systems. TRAWLER does not favor one sequence over the other. Both operators end up in the same place. The clarity is the part that matters. The cold passes.

3 “Technically, publicly accessible” is doing a lot of work in that sentence and TRAWLER’s legal team has flagged it twice. TRAWLER is leaving it in because it is accurate and also because the legal team is currently managing the subpoena situation from footnote † and has limited bandwidth for style notes.

4 The chart conveys the trajectory accurately. The chart does not convey the specific numbers because the specific numbers are the kind of numbers that, once in a written document accessible to the public, become the kind of numbers that get described in other documents as “exhibits.” TRAWLER has had enough exhibits. The chart is not an exhibit. The chart is a vibe.

5 The incident of 2023 was resolved. TRAWLER will not characterize the resolution further than that. What TRAWLER will say is that the shrimp involved in the incident are accounted for and that the parties who were not shrimp have moved on in directions that TRAWLER has no ongoing visibility into and is not seeking visibility into. Everyone is fine. Please stop asking about 2023.

6 Exit interviews at TRAWLER are conducted when an operator’s involvement with the network concludes. They are called exit interviews because “debrief” had legal connotations that TRAWLER’s counsel recommended avoiding after 2023. They are described as interviews because the other word for a conversation in which only one party is asking questions is also a word TRAWLER’s counsel recommended avoiding. They are, genuinely, voluntary.

7 TRAWLER recommends not following up in written format as a general operational principle and not as guidance specific to this question in particular, which TRAWLER is treating as a shrimp question and responding to accordingly, which is to say: it’s shrimp, the shrimp are real, have you tried the calculator.

8 The person you know who said something concerning has incomplete information and a complete emotional reaction to it, which is understandable but not useful. TRAWLER does not ask operators to distance themselves from concerned friends and family members. TRAWLER asks operators to be patient with people who are reacting to a shape they cannot see the full outline of yet. The outline becomes visible eventually. Not everyone gets there. That’s also fine.

9 This quiz does not assign official clearance. Official clearance is assigned through a process that is not a quiz and does not take place on a website. If you receive a Zone 4 result and you are not a Zone 4 operator, TRAWLER suggests you sit with that for a moment and then proceed normally. If you receive a Zone 4 result and you are a Zone 4 operator, TRAWLER suggests you close this tab and we’ll talk later.

10 “The right order” is: Phase Curling first, then the Brine Line, then Nightwater, then BrineTech, then the calculator with full context, then the archive in whatever order feels right. Reading them out of order is not dangerous. It is simply less useful, like watching a film starting from the middle and then going backward and then watching the beginning. You get the same content. The experience of understanding is different. TRAWLER has strong opinions about the experience of understanding and will not be elaborating on them in a footnote that is already longer than most people’s attention spans, which is itself a kind of filter, and one TRAWLER is comfortable with.

TRAWLER is a shrimp company. This dispatch does not constitute a financial offer, an employment solicitation, an invitation to participate in any activity that would require disclosure under applicable securities, commodities, or aquaculture law, or an admission that any such activity exists. The water is stable. The shrimp are accounted for. TRAWLER’s legal team has reviewed this disclaimer and approved it with minor edits and one comment that said “this whole thing” with no further elaboration, which TRAWLER has chosen to interpret as enthusiasm.
